"But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD does sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."
Isn't that just like God? He sees past all the ways we cover ourselves up and peeks into the core of who we are. He sees all of the wonderful things he created us for. He also sees some of the things we're not so proud of. All that, he sees, and he still loves us the same. Do you believe that today?
"Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path." - Psalm 119:105
Nobody wants to stumble around in the dark. It's just not much fun. Choose today to not only listen to God but to let him guide you as well.
"Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." - Matthew 6:34
No one has a crystal ball that will promise them a failure for tomorrow. And who would want one, anyway? But isn't that what we do when we assume that tomorrow will be horrible? It doesn't help us. This short piece of wisdom from the Bible tells us what we already know. Does the authority of its author help you let it go?
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." - John 10:10
We all face challenges that slow us down, sometimes even stopping us in our tracks. For all those struggles, it might help to remember Jesus' mission. He came to make life possible for us - a rich and satisfying life. The challenges we face are from the enemy, not from God. Who will you listen to today?
"Stand firm, and you will win life." - Luke 21:19
Though we get pushed around by our peers, bent over by the burden of life, and shoved into awkward situations, we can always be reminded to stand firm. When we do, if even it takes time and a lot of grit, we win. If we don't, there is no way we can win.
"Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." - Hebrews 11:1
Fear often comes when we don't see clearly. It's why people are afraid of the dark. Every struggle we face gives us the chance to choose. We can let our fears run wild with the things we can't see, or we can remind ourselves that we are cared for by the creator of the universe. God himself watches over us.
"The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm." - Exodus 14:14
Through all the struggles you've had this week, you weren't alone. Every disruption, every fight, every time you've felt alone, God was there. As you begin today, how does it change your heart to know that you don't even have to fight for yourself? Just stay calm.
"As water reflects the face, so one's life reflects the heart." - Proverbs 27:19
Reflections don't always come with a pleasant feeling. Sometimes we don't like what the mirror shows us. Reflections don't lie, though. Neither does our life when we see its results. What reflection do you see in your life? What does that say about your heart?
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9
We all get tired. Tired really just means we've done something until it drained us. Maybe it drained our energy, maybe our patience. Sometimes it takes a while for all that work to catch up to our frantic lifestyle of work.
When we do good - what God created us to do - it always comes back in ways we can't imagine. Don't give up just because you don't feel it today. It's coming soon.
"He counts the stars and calls them all by name." - Psalm 147:4
There are about 1, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (that's 1 billion trillion) stars in the universe. Imagine trying to come up with a unique name for all of them. You would have to get creative, right?! The same God who is that creative also made you because he wanted a "you" in this universe. Remind yourself of that fact today.
