"Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see." - Hebrews 11:1
Some people wear eyeglasses to help them see more clearly. Faith does the same for us. It helps us see God more clearly. Then, when we act on our faith, everyone sees it too.
"Always be joyful." - 1 Thessalonians 5 16
It sounds simple, doesn't it? Just be full of joy all the time. Try it. Frustrated? This would be a frustrating adage if it were up to us to provide the joy. We can't give ourselves joy, though. It has to come from someone bigger than us and all of our circumstances. If you find yourself lacking joy today, go to the one who can give it freely.
"The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." - Proverbs 15:13
When we are crushed in spirit and feel at our worst, words rarely help. Trite phrases like everything happens for a reason just don't resolve any of the pain we feel so deeply. Mostly, we just need to know we aren't alone. God understands that. He promises to draw near in those times. If you're there, be sensitive for his presence. If you're not, be sensitive to those around you.
"So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified." - 1 Corinthians 9:26-27
"A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart, the spirit is crushed."
- Jeremiah 31:3
"A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by sorrow of heart the spirit is crushed." - Proverbs 15:13
It's so easy to be the reason someone feels bad, but it's huge to turn a bad day into something great. Make the difference for someone today who needs a reason to smile.
"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed." - Isaiah 53:5
We all take our lumps in life. It seems like some days are meant to punish us. Whatever you face today, know that your wounds are taken by Jesus himself so that you can be healed.
Sometimes we focus so much on what happened already that we can't see what's happening right now. Today, you have a chance to let go of the past and accept the present as you're led into God's future for you.
Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. - Proverbs 4:25
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." - Micah 6:8
What requirements do we have for ourselves? To look great like people we see on TV, to say the right things, the clever things, or to be seen with the right people - there are so many expectations we place on ourselves. God has three hopes for us: ACT JUSTLY; LOVE MERCY; WALK HUMBLY. Which will you choose today?
"So we are Christ's ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us." - 2 Corinthians 5:20
It's easy to forget. People are watching. God puts us on display, proudly, because we are how he makes new friends. Remember today that you have the ability to represent Jesus to everyone you see - especially other believers
