"Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable." - Psalm 145:3
In our culture of Google, the idea of something being unsearchable might be strange. This basic statement, though, has no end to how far you can search it. Great is the Lord. How great is he? Spend some time today searching for the answer to this.
"For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment." - James 2:13
When we are hurt, we want justice. We want a judge to come and make things right - for us. But when we make a mistake, we want mercy. Isn't that just the way it is? In God's kingdom, mercy always wins over judgment. Which will you choose today?
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
- Hebrews 13:8
Time changes everything. We grow older, hair styles come and go, culture drifts, nations rise and fall, even the landscape changes over time. But nothing changes who Jesus is and what he has done for us. Nothing can change the gift of grace we are given through Christ's finished work. Are you thankful for that today?
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever."
- Psalm 23:6
Do you ever feel like something is following you? It's usually not a good feeling. Sometimes just the thought is kind of creepy. But, what if something good follows you? What if goodness follows you wherever you go? What if mercy trails behind you. That means that you leave that behind after you've been there. Not a bad legacy to leave, is it?
"You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples." - Psalm 77:14
Our eyes have a lot to see in this life. Too many faces and friends, too many works of art, too many smiles, too many tears. There's no way we could take it all in, and that's only our eyes. God works wonders in all realms of our lives. Take some time to remind yourself of the wonders you've seen.
"You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love." - Galatians 5:13
How freeing does it feel when someone does something kind for you? It just feels like they care and you matter. The funny thing about that is that the person who served you feels the same way, but even more. Try serving someone today simply because you care about them. You will feel free at that moment.
"But as for me, I will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more." - Psalm 71:14
What good is hope if it doesn't last? I guess we all sometimes forget that our hope is always there in Christ. It doesn't go away just because we are in the middle of a struggle. That's when we need it most. That's what leads us to praise.
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock, and my redeemer."
- Psalm 19:14
This prayer has been recited daily by so many believers. At the beginning of every day. Before we have important conversations. Just about anytime is good to have this reminder on your lips.
"You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book." - Psalm 56:8
Sometimes we feel alone in our pain and suffering. We feel like all those tears we shed come out in private for no one to know. But God knows. He keeps track of them and records them in his book. Not to shame us, but to make everything right one day.
