"While we do not believe churches should affiliate with particular political parties, we do encourage churches to speak out boldly on social issues from a gospel perspective. We further believe churches have a right and responsibility to educate and equip their members to be effective advocates for justice in the wider world." (Book of Discipline 202012024, Government Responsibilities, A., Church and Society)

In collaboration with the Church of the Pines, United Women in Faith (UWF) is hosting a virtual (Zoom) presentation on April 11, 8:30 – 12:30, entitled Welcoming our Neighbors: A Faith Perspective on Immigration - Education and conversation grounded in faith, human dignity, and understanding immigration in Wisconsin and beyond.

We choose to be a light in this time of uncertainty by gathering our community to learn about the issues and concerns surrounding immigration and to provide an opportunity for discussion.
The Wisconsin Conference of United Women in Faith has arranged for speakers with expertise in the subject to present accurate and thought-provoking information. Attorney Grant Sovern, Board President of the Community Immigration Law Center, will discuss immigration in Wisconsin and explain the right to due process for everyone, including people accused of being deportable. Rev. Breanna Illene, ordained in the United Methodist Church and Director of Ecumenical Innovation and Justice Initiatives at the Wisconsin Council of Churches, will discuss how congregations can take action on immigration in their own communities. No matter where we live, we have neighbors who may be targeted.

We encourage everyone in our church family to attend this free educational event. Invitations will be extended to churches and relevant organizations in our area. RSVPs to the church office are requested by April 6. Registration forms for United Women in Faith members (with a $10 registration fee) will be available at the event.
